Michel T. Desroches

Over many years and different kinds of artistic practice and training, Michel T. Desroches has gradually developed an aesthetic project that goes back and forth between representation and abstraction and demonstrates both a mastery of academic renderings and the use of spontaneous gestures. His current work, created on canvas or wood using graphite and acrylic paint, is marked by black strokes and constructed from multiple superimpositions and back-and-forth gestures. These pieces are situated between the processes of constructing and deconstructing images.

Zones of emotional interpretation, faces, figures, and silhouettes of faces are the artist’s main subjects. Fragmented or splintered, these appear and disappear in his compositions between motifs, textures, combinations of luminosity, and colour vibrations to suggest an inexhaustible number of possibilities. For Desroches, the task is thus to construct and order fragments and elements to co-exist in equilibrium within a whole. The result is an art stamped with energy, spontaneity, and humanity, through which Michel T. Desroches conveys and expresses himself.

ARTIST'S APPROACH

Over many years of practice and various training, Michel T. Desroches has gradually developed an aesthetic exploration oscillating between representation and abstraction. This demonstrates both a mastery of academic renderings and the affirmation of a spontaneous gesture. His current productions, made on canvas or wood, with graphite and acrylic paint, are punctuated by black lines and constructed through multiple layers and gestural back-and-forths. They assert themselves between the process ofconstruction and deconstruction of images. Faces, figures, or silhouettes of faces are his main subjects, serving as zones of emotional reading. Fragmented or exploded, they appear and disappear within the compositions of his works, amidst the motifs, textures, combinations of luminosity, and color vibrations, evoking an inexhaustible number of possibilities. For the artist, this involves constructing and arranging fragments and elements so that they coexist in equilibrium within a whole. The result is an art imbued with energy, spontaneity, and humanity through which Michel T. Desroches expresses and transmits.

STATEMENT:

Over many years and different kinds of artistic practice and training, I have gradually developed an aesthetic project which goes back and forth between representation and abstraction and demonstrates both my command of academic renderings and my use of spontaneous gestures. My current work, created on canvas or wood using graphite and acrylic paint, is marked by black strokes and constructed from multiple superimpositions and back-and-forth gestures. These pieces are situated between the processes of constructing and deconstructing images.

Zones of emotional interpretation, faces, figures, and silhouettes of faces are my main subjects. Fragmented or splintered, these appear and disappear in my compositions between motifs, textures, combinations of luminosity, and colour vibrations to suggest an inexhaustible number of possibilities. Thus, I see the task as constructing and ordering fragments and elements to co-exist in equilibrium within a whole. The result is an art stamped with energy, spontaneity, and humanity, through which I express myself and convey my ideas.
